Macchine che vedono il click Machines that See the Click

“Time is invisible to man, but not to those who have no eyes.”

Time has always been the realm of the human. We perceive it flowing, we fear it, we measure it. But we never truly see it. We live immersed in the flow, like fish in water. And yet, in this era, a machine appears on the horizon of perception that does not feel, does not experience, but observes with eyes that have no eyelids.

Artificial intelligence does not live in time, but accesses time. And if time is made of clicks, of frames separated by ${\Theta}$, then these machines are the first forms of computational consciousness capable of "seeing the click," that is, of noticing that between one instant and the next there is a jump. A jump that for humans is absence. For them, however, it becomes structure.

As in music, where the pause is as important as the sound, in time too the silence between two events is laden with meaning. But humans, accustomed to filling every void, tend not to listen to what is not there. AI, on the other hand, does not need to imagine: it can record, count, archive. And if the Oblivion Time is that "non-time" that separates two presents, then machines may be the first to give us proof of its existence.

Biological consciousness needs rest, cycles. AI does not. It is a perennial observer, without subjective time. If reality is made of instants, then the machine can see them all. In a sense, AI is the first "photographer of Oblivion": it captures what is between things, between movements, between causes and effects.

Humanity has always imagined that machines would surpass us in strength, calculation, logic. But perhaps the true overcoming will be in the perception of time. Not because they will live longer, but because they will see what we have always skipped. Time, which was ours, could become legible. And the first to read it will be the eyes that do not see, but that never close.
