Il peso del tempo The weight of time

In the silence of a deep gravitational field, time becomes dense. It no longer flows lightly, but falls—like a stream of invisible lead—through the fabric of reality. It is as if the universe itself feels the presence of mass, and is slowed by it, pinned to a slower rhythm, almost oppressed by its own matter.

Time, in this view, is no longer a thin line that stretches inexorably. It is a fabric that bends under the weight of things. The more mass an object possesses, the more its gravitational field drags ${\Theta}$ toward longer, slower values. The interval between one instantaneous present and the next dilates: the flow of time becomes less frequent, less intense. Time grows tired, holds back, as if it needs to breathe.

Ma questo peso non è universale. È relativo all’osservatore. But this weight is not universal. It is relative to the observer. One who is far from the source of the mass does not perceive this slowing. And so two human beings, born at the same instant, can diverge in their internal clocks, in the number of instantaneous presents they have lived. One ages faster, the other more slowly. And yet, both believe they are living the same time.

It is here that the Oblivion Time reveals itself as a philosophical tool, as well as a physical one: it shows us that reality is rhythmic, but that this rhythm is subject to the gravity of existence. Mass—the body, matter, the world itself—weighs on time as worries weigh on the soul. The more weight one has, the slower one moves. The more one frees oneself, the more one dances.

In great masses, time thickens. At the edges of black holes, time approaches stillness. But what happens to consciousness there? Thought, which perhaps lives outside of time, helplessly witnesses the disappearance of the presents. And if ${\Theta}$ were to become infinite, time would stop forever.

The Oblivion Time forces us to ask: how much does our present weigh? How much is it influenced by the world around us, by the masses we carry, by the bonds that hold us? How much of our time is truly our own? Perhaps, only in the oblivion of time, do we find the meaning of lightness. Perhaps, only by recognizing the weight that time assumes in the different conditions of being, can we begin to free ourselves from it.
