Capitolo 5 Chapter 5

Velocità della Luce e Tempo di Oblivion Speed of Light and Oblivion Time

“Light is what allows us to see the world. But perhaps it is also the rhythm upon which the world itself is built.”

Imagine being in a completely dark room. No sound, no movement, just your breath and the beat of your heart. Suddenly, a flash of light illuminates everything for an instant: the outlines of the room, the color of the walls, your own body. Then, darkness again. In that instant—infinitesimal yet absolute—everything was visible. It is as if the entire world existed only in that beat of light. That is the nature of the instantaneous present.

But what if the flash is continuous? If the light never stops flashing, or rather, if it flashes so quickly that it becomes omnipresent? This is the role of light in the universe according to the Oblivion Time Theory: the maximum rhythm, the absolute reference of observable reality, that which sets the limits of our ability to grasp events. Light does not travel: it happens. And it happens exactly every time an instantaneous present is activated. It is the visible beat of the universe.

Cosa significa "velocità della luce"?What does "speed of light" mean?

In classical physics, light travels at about 299,792,458 m/s in a vacuum. But what does this figure really mean? Is it a speed, or a limit, or something even more profound? If time does not flow but jumps, and if these jumps occur according to a quantized grid (the oblivion time), then the speed of light is simply the maximum frequency at which a reality can manifest. Not because light travels faster, but because it does not need to "jump" between instants.

La luce no. Light does not know oblivion time. Or rather, its oblivion time is null. For this reason, it does not age, does not slow down, has no inertia. For it, the present is eternal. This is why, from a certain point of view, light does not move at all: it is everywhere at the same time, because it has no empty interval between two instants. The electron, however, does. Your hand does. A planet, a magnetic field, a thought: they all manifest according to their own rhythm of oblivion. Light does not.

La luce come riferimento assolutoLight as an absolute reference

If everything has its own oblivion time—that is, its minimum time between one present and the next—then we can say that light is the thing with the lowest possible oblivion time: ${\Theta = 0}$. In a universe structured this way, light becomes the metronome of existence, the primary rhythmic unit. Everything we perceive is "synchronized" with respect to it, and everything that appears slower, more massive, or more distant is simply more asynchronous with respect to the luminous rhythm. This view explains why light is always the same for all observers (a postulate of relativity), but it does so through a logic of sampling: all observers have their own oblivion time, but light is synchronized with absolute time—the one that has no gaps.

Esperimento mentale: il fotografo del tempoThought experiment: the photographer of time

Imagine a cosmic photographer who occasionally takes a snapshot of the universe. For each frame, he can only see what manifests in that instant. Now imagine that light is the only thing present in all the photos. Why? Because it has no interval of absence. On the contrary, a material object—a star, an atom, an eye—appears only every few clicks, according to its oblivion time. It is as if it were a secondary character who enters the scene every three beats, while light is the permanent protagonist. This also explains the illusion of movement: what appears as continuous displacement is only a sequence of synchronized manifestations, illuminated by light and reconstructed by our consciousness. But in every instant, the frame is still, motionless, filled only with what has the "right" to appear in that present. And light has a perpetual right.
